Whoa, Google Has Designers
I stumbled across this video yesterday. It's from Adaptive Path's UX Week in 2011. The talk was given pretty soon after Google launched a full redesign of their major products for the first time in 10 years! I was thrilled to see the updates to gmail, search, maps, calendar, and in the past few months watching it trickle down to reader, forums, etc. I always was curious about the story behind the decision, and this talk given by Jon Wiley (head of UX for search) fills you in on the details. It's thrilling as a ux/ui/ixd designer to see design be taken as seriously as engineering has been for the past 20 years in software. Hooray for usability, whitespace, readability, and sanity in the digital world!
